Golf
From its inception, Aroeira’s design has always been grounded in the landscape. The two classic golf courses winding through the estate are a testament to this:
Luminous expanses, walkable stretches of grass, surprising inclines, and moments of variety in the vegetation. Golf is nothing if not attention paid to the landscape—the height of a single blade of grass can make all the difference in a game, and every slope carries meaning. In many ways, the quality of life in Aroeira reflects the qualities inherent to golf’s sportsmanship: time with nature, a like-minded community, cross-generational access, tradition, travel, and personal development.
Golf was introduced to Portugal in the early twentieth century and the Aroeira estate was at the forefront of expanding the sport within the country in the 1960s.
English golf course architect Frank Pennink designed Aroeira 1 with his characteristic respect for natural landforms and a focus on challenging, strategic layouts. Most recently, Aroeira has partnered with the PGA, making it the only PGA National in Portugal, placing it in the company of Scotland’s Gleneagles and England’s The Belfry.
Thoughtful investments are now implementing necessary updates to future-proof the courses, enhancing both the aesthetic and practical aspects of the estate.
Aroeira 1 and Aroeira 2 have long protected the estate’s natural beauty, ensuring professional care for the landscape and buffering the existing architecture from overdevelopment. Now, protecting the courses means bringing them into the future alongside the PGA and the Aroeira Collections by Missoni.
